Jewelry Box Cake

JEWELRY BOX CAKE
We recently made a couple cakes for a family party. We celebrated my aunts sister turning 50, and her other sister graduating with her PHD. So it was quite the cause for celebration.

My mom worked really hard at creating this amazing Jewelry Box Cake. The actual jewelry is not edible, (shhh) and the lid on the box is only covered in fondant, so technically that is not edible either, BUT everything else is. The jewelry box was covered in a chocolate fondant. SHe created the handles, and painted them with edible gold. She added some fine fondant velvet on top, and placed the jewelry on it. Along with some black and red roses, and the cake is finished. SImple, classy, and TIME CONSUMING, just the way a cake should be right? It turned out awesome, especially for being our first time creating something this!

So sorry for the lack of posts around here, BUT we've all been kinda sick. Of course school starts and it doesn't take long around here. Not to mention I've been busy with a HUGE giveaway that is going on my other blog right now.

Party Planning Tuesdays will continue just as soon as things settle back down.
Thanks for understanding!

Rice Crispy Elmo Cake

Check out this Elmo cake. Do your kids love Elmo, I know mine sure did, in fact they still do. How can you not love Elmo? The actual cake was covered in fondant. We placed different sized circles and a two toned fondant twisted rope as the border. Elmo however was made from Rice Crispy Treats, and decorated with colored buttercream. His eyes, and nose were indeed covered in fondant.

Party Planning Tuesday ~ Ruffled Pink Barbie Cake ~

Welcome to the 10th edition of:

Photobucket

I know it's Friday, and this is a Tuesday Party. I thought I put it up on Monday night, but instead of hitting Publish, I hit save, ooops.

Sorry about that :)

Today I am sharing a pretty cake we did. Yup it's another barbie cake, we do a lot of those, but this one had a pretty pink ruffle dress. I had so much fun dressing her in this pink and white dress. We added a huge pretty bow to the back of the dress, and slid a dress up ring in the middle of it.

We added some fondant butterflies, and edible pearls to the dress the following morning.
It was so fun to create this cake. The inside of the cake was a delicious vanilla cake with a strawberry mousse filling. Quite yummy, if you ask me!

Welcome to the 8th edition of:

Photobucket

You can link up to the party at the bottom of the post. Thank you for joining in!
Please grab a button, and help spread the word about the party. I love seeing all your party ideas, and I know others will too. Lets make this a great resource for others to get inspired!!

Today I wanted to share with you an incredible cake we worked on this weekend. My mom, a VERY talented friend of ours, and I worked hard making this special Anniversary cake for a special couple celebrating 25 years of marriage. Thats why we did the whole silver theme, and they requested sunflowers, so the SILVER SUNFLOWER cake was created.

Laura, a dear friend has helped out with several cakes so far, and her talent is incredible. She spent countless hours creating this sunflowers, and they truly turned out PERFECT! Thank you so much for your hard work Laura!

The inside of the cake was our delicous DOBOSH cake, which meant HOURS and HOURS slaving away baking dozens, and dozens of very thin sheets of white cake, and then layering the most delicious buttery chocolate filing in between.

The rest of the cake was decorated with fondant, and a simple fondant ribbon, and letters. Everything was dusted with an edible silver powder. This cake was a labor of love, but so is 25 years of marriage. We hope you enjoy it!!

The 45 minute WEDDING Cake

Remember the other day when I mentioned on Facebook that my mom rushed to get a wedding cake delivered to a wedding, after getting a call asking where the cake was? Yup, she had the cake baked, and ready to go for the following day which is what her oder stated. OOOPS, I guess there was a bit of misunderstanding.
Luckily, VERY LUCKILY she was able to fill the cake, AND DECORATE it, AND deliver it, in less than 2 hours from when she got the call. The cake is covered in fondant and decorated with fresh flowers. So this def helped out, otherwise things may not have had such a happy ending.

Everything was done just in time for the reception to begin. It was a close one, and surely it has happened to every baker at least once right? Well NEVER has it happened to us before, it was horrifying to say the least. I can't imagine the devastation had she not been able to complete this. Thankfully everything worked out perfect though, and everyone was happy!!

THE 45 minute WEDDING CAKE

Just to be clear with what she had to work with, HERE is what the cake looked like when she got the call. I just happened to take these pics of the cake as it was coming out of the oven, it smelled SO good, and I had to show you how lovely our cake looks, even without anything else on it.

This is what a typical Romanian style cake looks like, a beautiful sponge, light, fluffy cake, YUMMY!

Party Planning #7 ~ BABY CONVERSE CAKE ~

Welcome to the 7th edition of
Photobucket
Before we get the party started let me show you a cake we did this weekend.
It was my first time making baby shoes from fondant. I really wanted to do little converse, they are so cute, and so I tried my very best to do just that. This was a baby shower cake, for a little boy, so we decorated the rest of the cake with buttons and little baby clothes. We got the inspiration for this cake from the lovely Amy @ Momentary Madness, who did a beautiful cake that we saw on Pinterest, and just knew this was what we wanted to make for this baby shower. It was a surprise for the mommy, and our gift to her, so we got free reign on the design. We choose the colors RED, YELLOW, and BLUE basically because they are the colors of the Romanian flag, and it just fit, for this cake.

If you want to see the TUTORIAL for how to make those baby converse,
