Rice Crispy Elmo Cake

Check out this Elmo cake. Do your kids love Elmo, I know mine sure did, in fact they still do. How can you not love Elmo? The actual cake was covered in fondant. We placed different sized circles and a two toned fondant twisted rope as the border. Elmo however was made from Rice Crispy Treats, and decorated with colored buttercream. His eyes, and nose were indeed covered in fondant.

Party Planning #7 ~ BABY CONVERSE CAKE ~

Welcome to the 7th edition of
Photobucket
Before we get the party started let me show you a cake we did this weekend.
It was my first time making baby shoes from fondant. I really wanted to do little converse, they are so cute, and so I tried my very best to do just that. This was a baby shower cake, for a little boy, so we decorated the rest of the cake with buttons and little baby clothes. We got the inspiration for this cake from the lovely Amy @ Momentary Madness, who did a beautiful cake that we saw on Pinterest, and just knew this was what we wanted to make for this baby shower. It was a surprise for the mommy, and our gift to her, so we got free reign on the design. We choose the colors RED, YELLOW, and BLUE basically because they are the colors of the Romanian flag, and it just fit, for this cake.

Caterpillar Robot Cake

Caterpillar Robot Cake
This cake was so adorable. The client wanted this toy caterpillar to be on the cake. I've never seen this toy before, maybe it was a cartoon, I don't know. Either way, I just loved the way it turned out, and it kind of reminded me of a robot. We decorated the rest of the cake with some grass, flowers, trees, and butterflies. I'm sure Connor had a great birthday!!

Blue Prince Cake

Blue Prince Cake
This was a fun cake to make. The little boy was turning one, and his mom wanted a crown for her little prince. We added simple balls, and stripes, all staying with the blue color to compliment the rest of the cake. It turned out just as we had pictured, maybe even better, lol. I love making whimsical cakes like this.

The BASKETBALL cake

The BASKETBALL cake
This is a two tiered cake, with the marbled square underneath the basketball. Using a ball shaped pan, you can create many types of cakes. This client requested a basketball theme. So we made the basketball the topper. We covered everything in fondant, and added some stars as decorations.

Spongebob Square Pants - Cake

I just love the way Spongebob Square Pants turned out. He is perfect, with his two buck teeth, pointy nose, scrawny arms and legs, and that awesome red tie. He is decorated with fondant. Remember when creating Spongebob he needs to be rectangular, so use a 1/4 sheet, 1/2 sheet, or even two square pans next to each other to create his body. I'm sure Ethan loved his cake!!

African Safari Cake

This cake is a great example of how you don't have to create everything from fondant, and still have a really great looking cake.
You can usually pick up a cake kit from your local grocery store, or  party city. We used the kit from Madagasgar, and it worked perfectly with out African Safari theme.

Since we don't own a cake printer yet, we will sometimes print out a picture and laminate it so we can place it on the cake. The map of Africa is an example of how this looks. This could all be hand painted, and everything could be made edible, including all the animals and trees.

Sometimes, you may not want to spend the time to do that, or your client may not have it in their budget to have everything handmade, so this is a great alternative. The cake is still covered in fondant, and after you eat the cake, you can still play with the animals. Great for a kids party!!
